that's probably not my best sales pitch, but i'm really excited right now.
i think i've only ever seen, like. two kyogokudo players ever. it's not a series i think i could manage, but props to you for it. ♥

Two? That means there's at least one other than me... O_O

there is definitely another one out there! i neglected to catch their username, though, and it was a few years back. : ( on the other hand, i'm just amazed that it has a presence in dwrp at all, it's like nobody ever saw the ubume anime.

Haha the really ridiculous thing was that they animated the SECOND book of the series! No wonder it never caught on... they skipped the book with all of the character introductions!

. . . yeah, that sounds like kubota. i can't remember about the earlier volumes, but in later chapters, he definitely starts repeating a line that's either "it doesn't matter to me" or "i don't matter [here]", but i've been leery about translating it properly.
--o wait, shit, that's right. ubume was the first book, which vertical translated and promptly dropped, because vertical is a tease. the headless mystery was the second book! god, it's been so long, i just remember being so mad that i had to translate the prologue for yume myself. but yeah, i'm still disappointed that they never tried harder to get him to catch on outside of japan, iirc he's their bestselling mystery/specfic novelist, isn't he?

/nod I'd have to look it up, but that sounds like Kubota. Such a weird guy... I love him though.
From what I hear, Vertical couldn't really afford the translation costs for Kyougoku's brick-like novels, and they eventually lost the contract... but the "Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari" short stories are being translated now (only 99 cents on Amazon too!) so there may still be some hope of the novels getting picked back up one day! I don't know if he's the bestselling mystery novelist but he's definitely pretty popular. Sadly, the novels are waaaay too dense for me to read haha. It's tl;dr:the novel.

awww, that's a pity -- makes sense, though, he's awful to translate. i think i was skimming through a word-doc for kyoukotsu's dream and found a section that was, like, perfectly justify-formatted. and i couldn't tell whether it was just the meticulousness of whomever'd uploaded it or whether kyogokudo, he of the "i'll just build my OWN printing press so that i can print my books exactly how i imagined them!!" dreams, had actually written the tl;dr equivalent of a blank verse epic in fucking japanese.
meanwhile, i just looked up hyakki tsurezurebukuro, I DID NOT REALISE THERE WAS AN ANIME, ahhhhhhh, bless you for keeping up. ♥♥♥

Alas, there's no anime (that I know of anyway)... but there are drama CDs!

in conclusion: v. nice to meet another person who never really crawled out of the 90s, hope to see you around later. ♥
