Today is the day!

The Quad welcomes you, so time to let you all loose to wreak bloody havoc upon the unsuspecting masses.

Chapter 1 Event Log is up for your review, with each of the faction prompts set as a top-level. Please feel free to post threads either under each top-level or create your own logs for the event - whichever works best for you.

To help you get started, here are some potential quick notes for things you could do with these prompts--but feel free to expand or come up with something entirely on your own!

Prompt Notes

The Nine

Now is the time to make or break alliances. Hopefully you'll choose wisely. Do you work with the Killjoys to save the heir, organize mercenaries to kill the welp(s), or use this distraction to start setting your own political traps on the field?

The Company

Company Enforcers are having quite a hectic week. Some may have the ignoble task of staking criminals in the rain, while others get to conduct the genetic ID verification checks - either in between rainfalls or while they're holing up during. Some may be sent to Eulogy with a fabricated criminal history to try to barter back the claimant papers, others sent to Leith to investigate the True Leithian leaders responsible for the attack, and still others to track down the actual thieves.

Leithians

Running a secret Jakk production facility in the woods near your farm? Has someone offered you some extra work 'off the books' if you outstay your visa? Are you a Killjoy out to apprehend one of the first, or a Company Enforcer there to punish them?

True Leithians

The True Leithians had a truly nefarious plot - ingenious in its simplicity to their eyes. Go to Westerley, break into the Family Registry Bureau, and steal the records of those eligible to claim lands on Leith. What they didn't anticipate was the Black Rain lasting for so long, how to get off moon without being caught by the tenacious Company, or in some cases... how to make it back to their ship with angry Westies at their heels. Help them for a tidy sum of joy or hang them?

Westies

Sinew to bone - bodies staked in the rain are dissolved to nothing within a few short hours. Momentary exposure is still enough to provide one with deep chemical burns. Wherever you are on Westerley - Old Town, Eulogy, a fortified safehouse in the Badlands - expect to be stuck there for the duration. Unless, of course, you're one of the few that have access to the underground tunnels in Old Town.

Those caught in space or elsewhere in the Quad cannot access Old Town until the storms subside - any attempts to approach even the outer edges of the stormfront will result in significant damage to the vessel, either through electrical interference or chemical damages to the outer hull.

But for those whose dealings are less than legal, now is a time of profit. Some want to sell (or bet against) claimant papers in Eulogy. Others just want to find a buyer to get the things out of their hands. Either way comes at a great cost - especially if a Killjoy or Enforcer gets to you first.

For the Westie natives, however, there's another problem. Someone tried to steal your meal ticket off this toxic moon. Maybe you should think on getting it back...or do you trust the system to do the work for you?

Resistance

You're all rebels... let's find ways to rebel. The bunker hasn't been used in generations. There's scarcely more than enough food to last a week and medical supplies are all but nonexistent. You have a place to grow your resistance, but you'll need to put in a lot of elbow grease to give it a fighting shot.

The RAC

Busy season for Killjoys! Here are some of the potential warrants that can be taken from the prompts, but feel free to add in your own (level 3 and below).

Major Plot Points

Black Warrant

This is a competitive warrant open to all killjoy teams or individuals ranked level 4 or higher. Teams do not have to be permanent, they can be formed purely for the pursuit of this warrant and dissolved thereafter. To sign your team up for this assignment, please reply to this top comment with the names of your team members.

Should the result of player plotting be that the black warrant is completed, the team responsible will be decided via RNG.

Fate of the Heir

The fate of the heir will have significant effects on the unfolding story. For transparency's sake, please review each result below before beginning your planning:

Scenario: Success

If the heir is successfully delivered to Qresh in time, the Nine will remain whole and relative stability will continue in the Quad. Lady Derrish will make a slow recovery and an investigation into her poisoning will begin. The investigation will turn its eyes first to the other members of the Nine, but soon spread into Leith and Westerley, becoming the focus for this faction in Chapter 2. Land Derrish will reward the individuals responsible for returning its heir with a hefty sum of joy and docking privileges on their private lands in Qresh. The organization those individuals belong to will in turn see a blind eye turned to their more illicit affairs for a while and a few political favors thrown their way, tipping the balance of power ever so slightly.

Scenario: Failure

If the heir is not successfully delivered to Qresh in time, the Nine will be temporarily broken and Chapter 2 will open with a Quad-wide lockdown on all travel. Characters will be grounded in whatever location they ended Chapter 1 in for at least three game days. Following that, the Nine will announce that Lady Derrish has been successfully saved by the top medical doctors on Qresh and name her assailants. The Resistance. Westerlerns will take the fall for her poisoning, the results of which will be a brutal increase in security measures and moon-wide totalitarian rule. Travel to and from Westerley will become extremely limited as the Nine seek out members of the Resistance. Neighbors will turn on neighbors and anyone with known Resistance leanings will be forced to go deep underground.

We encourage everyone to engage in cooperative OOC plotting to come to a consensus on what exactly the outcome will be. While we understand that every character involved in this plot will have their own agenda, we wish to foster an environment in Overjoyed where players can all plot together to reach developments that are satisfying to everyone - whether their characters 'win' or 'lose'.

The mods will keep an eye on the pace of the plotting on the meme, and once it slows significantly, or after 5 days - whichever comes first - a post will be made for all players to respond with their desired outcomes. In this case, majority rules, so it benefits everyone to cooperate and compromise rather than try to approach things independently.

Doing things this way is very much a trial, and we will be open to feedback and change should this method prove too difficult, too frustrating, or ineffective.

Primary Faction Goals: YOU BET HE'S GUNNING FOR THE BLACK WARRANT he used to actually be from Land Derrish ( before he was exiled smh ), so this is... interesting for him. he'll still be gunning for success, mostly because he wants the nine's official ( begrudging ) thanks to feed his ego. he knows this can't be done alone though, so he'll be taking people along!!
Secondary Faction Goals: goal 1 will likely keep him busy, though i'm toying around with a potential resistance thing — feeding them information to get started? or something? he won't be making a trip to the bunker specifically, though. he can't actively help the genetic forgers, or the attackers, since they're also warrants, but i'm happy to hash something out.

Character: Handsome Jack
Location: Westerland / Leith
Primary Faction Goals: Jack isn't technically an Enforcer so much as a management position, but he definitely takes some enforcer-like tasks upon himself because he likes putting bad people where they belong. :)

I'm thinking that he'll be pursuing the "sent to Leith to investigate the True Leithian leaders responsible for the attack," portion there towards the end of this event. If you're a company Enforcer or RAC agent looking for a job, Jack would be willing to bring you along to go dig into this! If there are people interested in this, I think we could plot it out a bit more, but we'll call this a general call to see if there's anyone interested and we can go from there lmao...

Also, Jack will have info on the criminals involved in the attack, so if you're looking for info but don't necessarily want to team up with Jack, he can pass it along! You just might have to convince him to do so or may owe him a favor. Either way, we can totally network there.

Secondary Faction Goals: Before he potentially handles the above problem, Jack is going to be hard at work! Jack is a mid-level manager at the Prisoner Intake Facility, so if you're a criminal or a RAC agent that might be turning someone in during this time, you have a chance to run into him.

But as that's generally the case, Jack would also be interested in tracking down some of the True Leithians trying to escape. He won't be placing kill warrants on anyone, but he will herd them out into the acid rain and let nature take care of things because he's the worst. This one can be more OTA than the above, since there's probably potential for pretty much anyone to get involved in Jack playing cat and mouse here.

Also if you're a Company-aligned character, Jack might invite you to come chill at his place and wait out the rain. Depends on how cool you are, duh.

Desired CR:
Any and all, considering we're just getting started! Though just to say it, I am totally down for antagonistic CR, since Jack is meant to draw that kind of response! He's vicious and pretty self-interested, so, yeah, bring on the haters. Only caveat is to just let me know if things are proceeding towards violence, laughs...

Also, we can also handwave some assumed CR if you'd like to skip the intro stage and jump right into Jack potentially knowing who your character is as an acquaintance or just from being a nosy asshole and digging into deets when he can.

Anything else? you'd think jack would have been an rac agent with how much he loves busting heads but no he's corporate scum

Taking down fanatical leaders probably comes with a good pile of joy. Just stop calling him princess, or he'll likely get punched at LEAST once.

Location: Westerley, then Leith
Primary Faction Goals: Ensuring order on Westerley--at first, he'll be the guy tying prisoners to stakes and checking IDs. As a Company man, his initial interests necessarily align with theirs; he's told to execute the prisoners, he's told to suss out forgers, and he does so. However, he also hears of the larger situation with regard to the sequestered heir.
Secondary Faction Goals: He'll want that baby protected, alive and well. After some time spent keeping peace on Westerley, he'll likely act as a guard to Lady Derrish. He is a menacing presence, given his usual demeanor and the glowing circuits carved into his body, and he'll be determined to see the Lady and the child safe.
Desired CR: If your goals align with his, he'll work with you--regardless of faction. But if you're disruptive or a baby-killer, then we'll have a problem.

IN OTHER WORDS: be friends, be enemies; there's potential for both!! He's also been around a while and established CR can be a thing, too, especially if you're Company/have a lot of dealings with said Company.
Anything else? Fenris is an enforcer who takes his job seriously, if not happily. He does what he's told whether he likes it or not (and most of the time, he doesn't like it), but he's willing to operate outside of the rules if they don't conflict with his overall orders.

Primary Faction Goals: Ohgod he's so bored, probably warrant shit being stuck inside for days with no poor saps to make cry would be a form of torture...
Secondary Faction Goals: There is no goal 2 entertain him plz. That said I am pretty up for whatevs
Desired CR: Kind of thinking maybe going after 1-2 warrants depending on what they are/feasibility:
→BLACK WARRANT: He doesn't care too much about. That said, a) it's live or dead heeeeellll yeah, b) so many folks trying to murder eachother over this!!! double hell yeah his favorite activity, c) honestly he'd just think it would be funny watching everyone flip their shit getting all worked up. The best priorities right here. That said he's L3 so he'd need an L4 to participate. On the plus side he's a doctor he's helped a woman or two through a pregnancy before. Maybe not like, under gunfire from every single faction, but there's always time to improve one's skills....

→STOLEN CLAIMANT PAPERS: Had your papers stolen? Know someone who did? Get tasked by the Company to get them back? Midori's willing to team up!! I can't promise there won't be a fight, but maybe you're looking for a fight...?

→VISA CIRCUMVENTION: If you want to see a sociopath being nice and talking someone down from going illegal and ruining their life. Or. Trying. Or something. Beating up poor people is kind of depressing, but a warrant's a warrant.

→NATIONALIST ROUND-UP: Refer to everything for the black warrant above except the doctor stuff. Probably. Also Midori would care slightly more about this. 10% less chance of him playing around (you don't want to hear a grown man hum the opening of a children's program while he roughs folks up), 10% more chance of him getting a little philosophical about what constitutes "alive".

☉ OTHER STUFF: Open to things before/after the rains! Quick rundown of general Midori stuff:
-Training/sparring/info sharing/idk water cooler talk with fellow Killjoys
-Doctor stuff he's not picky unless you're rich and have any other option available to you or want something unethical like a poisoning
-Will pick on resistance/company people at times (ie remind them of times he completed a warrant that pissed off their faction/if they've fought in the past ask if the other party has improved their skills/ask if they've completed x goal yet if he knows something they're aiming for; BASICALLY be an asshole yep)
-He'll make people who seem like they don't have the will to live anymore hang out with him idk shenanigans here

Primary Faction Goals: being bitter about the treatment towards the workers obvs... given his family's criminal background, he's having a difficult time with life as people expect him to do something just as bad. at this point in the game, he'll just be trying to continue on with his daily life, but he'll be watching the news all the freaking time and be said for the westies, because, wow???
Secondary Faction Goals: nnnot much really! atm i just want him to be one of those people on the sidelines quietly brooding and/or making coffee for people and also giving out information to those who need it. in exchange for $$$$ ofc.
Desired CR: as we're just beginning, i'm open to any and all kinds of cr! as mentioned, given his family's criminal background (and the news def went viral years and years back), the elster family is known for having turned a human into an android and that was a big no-no. more info on that can be found here. so... if your character is an enforcer of some sort, then please feel free to give leo a very difficult time!

something i'd really like to play out, though, but not necessary! people asking him for favours in exchange for $$$, whether it be simple requests like "can you buy this book for me" or other things like "what did you hear from that guy on the other table???" basically he'll do anything for the monies... ah :') except... do sexual things nty he's rather pure.

Jack is going to be pursuing people who tried to mess with the Claimant papers in pretty much uh, any capacity, so if you'd be interested, he could totally come to bother Leo about it! Probably just the general asking if he's heard anything, but I can guarantee that Jack will be both a) obnoxious b) an asshole about it considering Leo's background there.

Primary Faction Goals: He'll be a team lead for one of the teams going after the black warrant (current partner is Lavi, but we're both open to having others join their team!). He'll also work on chasing a few of the other warrants on Westerley and Leith.

I'm game for teaming up to look for the true leithian leaders or chasing down visa jumpers on Leith as well.

Some things I'd like to do with him is to chase a warrant to Eulogy - maybe as hired muscle for an enforcer tracking down the claimant papers? - and either escorting people through the tunnels or possibly running into resistance peoples while using the tunnels to travel during the rains? He could help them or find himself at a crossed-purpose... I'M GAME FOR IT ALL!

Secondary Faction Goals: He has no secondary faction at this time - he does hate the Company though, so it's possible that he'd help non-company people with the right motivation.

Desired CR: Is ALL OF IT too broad?

No, but really. I'd love for him to meet people that challenge his very narrow view of the worlds, of humanity in general. He's pretty antagonistic, so I'd imagine setting that kind of CR would be easy with this jerk. He's been in the 'verse for three years, so if anyone wants to hash out pre-game CR, I'm still game for that too - maybe friendly...ish... competition with other killoys or something?

Location: Westerly
Primary Faction Goals: Resistance/Scarbacks. Ginshu's been a background player in the Resistance for a while, but he'll soon gain some prominence as a spiritual leader within the organization. He's not technically a priest, but he's amassing followers anyway. He has regenerative abilities and black rains won't hurt him toooo much, so he can move around relatively freely during the storm if anyone wants to pull some illegal hijinks. He'll probably be hanging out in the underground bunkers after that.

Secondary Faction Goals: Ginshu is definitely going to clash with some members of the Resistance... he's not quite a pacifist but he do prefers to minimize human casualties, so he supports the True Leithian terrorist attack on Company data (which is understandably not very popular on Westerly - I imagine there's tension within the Resistance between people who eligible for the Seveth Generation accord and people who aren't). So he might shelter a Leithian or two, and end up facing off against RAC members.

Desired CR: Anything! I love getting my characters involved in horrible things. Pre-existing CR is totally welcome. Ginshu has been involved in the Resistance on Westerly for about a year, so other rebels might know him as that nice scaly ex-killjoy priest dude who brings homemade cookies to secret terrorist meetings. If your character has Company ties, it's possible that they notice his vague resemblence to a certain completely amoral mad scientist...

Anything else? The whole split personality thing makes this character ridiculously complicated, but I'll try to keep thing simple for now!

Primary Faction Goals: the black warrant baby she doesn't actually care about the outcome tbh she just wants to WREAK HAVOC AND HAVE A GOOD TIME also she kind of wouldn't even want the heir alive it was rich assholes that made her life miserable with her parents' delusions of grandeur so she's like eh they deserve to all fall apart
Secondary Faction Goals: she's going to be trying to pin down the true leithans trying to cause an uprising and might even sideways get involved by means of adding more chaos, so to speak. she's really on the hunt to figure out who put out the hit on her team and she thinks there might be a start by putting down a couple of leithans. alternately, she may go to the resistance just to have a reason to get into these murky areas.
Desired CR: ANYTHING I'M SO OPEN FOR ANYTHING hanna probably needs a little bit of an adult to be like yo could you not absolutely set everything on fire? also someone who can help maintain her exoskeleton would be sweet so she doesn't have to go in all the time and explain that yes she set everything on fire and overexerted her gear AGAIN.

→ STOLEN CLAIMANT PAPERS. do you like trekking through an abandoned saltmine crowded with the filthy unwashed in the middle of a heatwave? have you always dreamt of accidentally getting shanghai'd into a fighting arena while trying to pry out whomever's selling illegal papers undercover? have you ever said, "to hell with subtlety!" and contemplated taking on an entire criminal den with one other person, probably resulting in trying to figure out how to cave the mine, failing, and fleeing on a motorcycle at night? would you like to know how many knives keith can actually fit into one pair of pants? if you said "what" to any of the above, this option is for you.

→ BLACK RAINS TRANSPORT. i actually have nothing clever to say about this, i just think it'd be great if keith + someone with actual authority tried to transport a level two and another team / company enforcer (??) stops them because the person may not actually be who they say they are! it is unclear! featuring: the client trying to take off on their own if the fight gets too hot. cat + mouse game ensues, now with 200% more acid rain.

→ IT'S THE GREAT FRB HUNT, CHARLIE BROWN. if you play a level 4 and are willing to presume cr, keith will probably come hunt them down as soon as these warrants go out, to strategise and demand that your character do the right thing, blah blah these leaders put people in danger. yes, he is happy to break into their apartment in the middle of the night to make this point. yes, he will claim that breaking in was an accident.

Desired CR: killjoys with whom he's worked before who'll never let him work with them again! citizens he ran into on the street and offended somehow! anyone who can patch him up, or has before! people who own nice machinery and are not opposed to keith periodically breaking in and coopting it / bringing it fancy upgrades without really knowing how to install them! please don't make someone this angry ride public transport!

look, we've about a year's worth of leeway to work with, and i am indescribably into ridiculous backstories about that time one of the nine's rich knock-offs put out a warrant for their ex during a nasty split, who walked off with their beloved dog, which turned out to have three heads and a terrible unwillingness to go back home. yes, i forgot to comment to the brainstorming meme in time. yes, i'm happy to invent options for your amusement if you tell me about your character and give me a random word prompt.

OTHERWISE, I'd kinda like something with Eulogy, but will probably dabble in any of the warrants! Particularly taking down the True Leithians because of the level (also because that was kind of a dick move, guys), but all of them look fun.

Secondary Faction Goals: Warrants will definitely take priority here, but otherwise he'll try and help out people fucked over by the storm/claimant papers fiasco. Anyone who gets stuck in the rain, people who need food/supplies, help antagonizing basically anyone, etc, he'll probably be willing to wave his killjoy rank around to get what they need. this is his Home Base okay

Re:Company, he's been in Westerley long enough that he's probably a shithead, but he'll still work with/for them without major issue so I'd love some team-ups there! He'll be pursuing the heir as part of the Black Warrant, but outside of that, Lavi is more self-serving than RAC oriented. He's interested in watching events unfold and the hidden sides of history, so he'll be taking every opportunity he can get to get involved in the underbelly of things!

I'd like to start inching him towards the resistance, but nothing too full-blown yet. His oath of neutrality goes behind the RAC and into his core personality, so it's going to be a long burn to get him truly invested. That said, he isn't a big fan of violence or watching needless cruelty, so his cool+calm will be pretty easily broken if he's witness to something excessive and there's nothing to keep him in check.

Takasugi's faction within the resistance has heard the rumors, and he sees this situation as a prime opportunity to destabilize the powers that be. He'll be looking for the heir with every resource he has, making contact with whoever it is he needs to locate and eliminate the child. He'll also go after any illegitimate heirs or false heirs, because being thorough is important in order to guarantee that the Nine have no leg to stand on.

As for gathering information, he'll probably start with shady places - like Eulogy - to see what crops up. Eventually he'll figure out her location (somehow w/e we'll figure it out LMAO) and head to Leith himself, though he's more likely to loiter in the hotel lobby than actually do any baby skewering himself.
Secondary Faction Goals: Gather any like-minded individuals to the resistance cause. Like-minded in this case meaning 'angry', 'violent', and 'ready to raise hell'.

Primary Faction Goals: INFORMATION BROKER TIME: Itsuki will be as confused as the rest as to where the surrogate and the heir are, but he'll definitely have been keeping an ear out, so he could possibly tell people of all the places the surrogate + heir AREN'T at. He also knows about the underground tunnels, so he could very well pass that information on to people who are interested! (less so for company enforcers though, unless they prove their good intentions.... maybe itsuki can like overlook the... tying people to stakes thing sweats. or maybe he can send them on a goose chase in attempt to see them get killed!!! )

He'll also definitely have helped spread the word about the Family Registry Bureau being blown to bits, and could tell anyone who's interested about the details (that someone shouted FOR LEITH, that gunfire was involved, that now everyone's hyped for NEW GENETIC IDENTITIES)

Everyone is most definitely free/welcome/go for it to do their own thing independently, etc, etc, don't feel you need to be in on this shitshow I am about to propose. That said since there's only one mom/baby-to-be and a few of us are interested in PvP shenanigans I am proposing a plot/timeline!

Primary Faction Goals: Don't attract any Company attention

Secondary Faction Goals: She'd prefer the heir to survive, if only because she'd know that the resulting power vacuum would do more harm than good, especially in Westerley, so if there's any info floating around she'll pass it on to Killjoys, though she won't get directly involved since she can't travel to Leith easily.

As for the stolen identities, Kara is fucking mad, she's one of those at Eulogy that very much doesn't agree with stealing from their own (or the attention) so she'll be getting in touch with her Killjoy contacts to give them names of thieves! Honestly if she finds out any of the people responsible for the attack are still on Westerley she might go after them herself.

I don't think she's going to get too involved in Resistance stuff at this point because she's trying not to die. However she may be doing some mercy kills for people slated for execution, I'm still not 100% but. could be fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So as mentioned in my plotting comment with Jack and after talkng to the mods a bit, he's pretty interested in trying to resolve the issue of the Leithian attack on the registry bureau! Jack is pretty invested in making sure the registry bureau is safe because of his own personal goals, but he's also just as invested in making sure that people that threaten his personal goals face consequences for that, yikes. As such, Jack will be looking for anyone interested to take a road trip to Leith and with any luck bring in one of the members of the leadership (alive).

For now, the general structure of this will be in three parts:

1) Info-hunting, where Jack, infobrokers, and anyone else who might be able to dig into whodunnit will do said digging on Westerley. Before they can head onto the next two parts of this plan, there needs to be a pretty solid idea of who they're going after, since alas, you can't go busting heads without reason.

2) "Road"trip, which is a bit sillier considering you'll just be stuck with the weird, ragtag group en route to Leith, but this is something I wanted to mention! If your character might not be able to travel freely out of Westerley, Jack will be able to escort them to Leith. I'm down for the possibility that your character might take advantage of this "generous" opportunity from Jack, but that's something that will need to be plotted out more, considering he won't exactly be pleased.

Also, you'll all be listening to dad rock. You're welcome.

3) And finally, the main event on Leith! By the time they get to Leith, the group should know who they're looking for, and a vague idea of where, but this is where most of the action will be. Depending on how we plot out part 1, there might already be a warrant through the RAC for fulfilling this part of the request, and if not, then Jack will place one once the target's location/involvement is confirmed enough for him to be able to push the warrant through. The warrant itself will be a level 3 warrant (live apprehension), and Jack will request that it be done quietly, but he absolutely will not complain if people die in the process, so long as they attacked first. Politics, and all that. However, this is likely, since I'll just copy and paste this note from the mods: "This is a group of militant nationalist, so once they think they're being invaded, they'll have to fight. Key is to just take the leaders alive. So he (and anyone else assaulting the base of operations) still have some wiggle room for fun there."

So if you have an asshole that likes killing people, this is potentially the job for you!

Generally speaking, this is a toplevel to get more people involved if they're interested! If any of parts 1 or 3 (2 is kind of optional...) interest you, just comment here to let me know and let me know how you're envisioning getting your character involved.
